Unwise

One question should have tipped me off…

“Would you like to settle your account BEFORE you go in?”

So I urge you: Take note. Good businesses and services don’t ask for money before service.

But that’s what the oral surgeon did before drugging me and yanking all of my wisdom teeth yesterday. You can lay off the “loss of wisdom” jokes too; I’m too swollen to laugh with you!

And as I sat there, waiting for “the gas”, a college memory came to me…

Communications class with John (that’s THE John to many of you). We were supposed to introduce each other to the class. I went first. Then John stepped up. He did all the details, then he moved to speaking about my long-distance girlfriend (now wife… not long-distance) and spoke of the struggle it was being far away.

He explained, “And it’s tough, you know, because Jason doesn’t get to see her that often because of gas.”

Awkward silence.

A room-full of minds replaying what they must have just missed.

Then an added line…

“I meant because of the PRICE of gas.”

And that made me laugh yesterday, even with fat cheeks.

Thanks John.

Baby

No, not OURS.

But we ARE headed to Calgary this weekend to meet our brand new nephew!

Should be a great weekend…

  • Numerous friends and family (too many to catch)
  • Some fun shopping (Ikea, M.E.C., and Pilgrim Books are our “must hit” spots)
  • A concert with Steve Bell and the Calgary Symphony Orchestra
  • A Riders/Stampeders game with my good friend Greg
  • And a road trip with my Love (Shannon, not Greg)

Now, THAT’S a way to spend Thanksgiving!

Catch you after the turkey’s been taken care of!

Nothing

Two problems with blogging right now…

1) I’ve got nothing to write.

2) I’ve got no time to write it.

Call it blogger’s block, or simply a quieter form of “wandering”.

I’ll return when it passes (because I know you were SO worried!)

March… Even Better than Usual

Yes, it’s the beginning of March Madness, the highlight of the true sports lover’s year! And yes, I’m pumped and ready to take it all in.

But this March is even better than usual, thanks to tickets that are in my possession. On Saturday, March 31, the dynamic duo of Bowser & Blue are doing a show in the Queen City. My lovely wife and I are grabbing a couple unsuspecting friends and taking in the show.

Bowser & Blue? Odds are decent that you don’t know them.

Here’s my introduction to them…

My friend Ian (yes, that’s Ian of the Muirhead variety) lent me a tape years back. He said it was his mom’s and that it was funny. After initial hesitation (because who listens to his mom’s stuff anyway), that tape didn’t come out of my stereo for weeks. And it gave me much pleasure.

Bowser & Blue… they’re like…

Old, Quebec-dwelling, guitar-wielding Rick Mercers. They’re big on political satire (they have NO sacred cows), Canadian culture (they have a song called “In the Key of Eh”), and anything else that can be presented in a way you’d have never thought of it.

Below is a video of one of their “earthier” classics. It’s entitled “Working Where the Sun Don’t Shine”. I’d say “Enjoy!”, but I fear a few of you won’t!

That’s okay.  You’re still welcome back another time.

Off

Yep, today’s my day off…

No office.

No books.

No laptop.

No email.

No phone.

If you’re gonna do it, better do it right.

I started with the morning… no alarm clock.

Shannon’s off too, so this is “tinker around the house” day, “get in a doctor appointment” day, “go to dance lesson” day, “watch the 24 we recorded on Monday” day, “spend some of the latest paycheck on things we need” day,… you know the kind.

And today’s blogging is done.

Have a great day!
