A Day Off: A Boss’s Perspective
So, you want the day off?
Let’s take a look at what you are asking for. There are 365 days per year available for work. There are 52 weeks a year in which you already get 2 days off per week, leaving 261 days available for work. Since you spend 16 hours each day away from work, you have used up 170 days, leaving 1 days available. You spend 30 minutes a day on a coffee break. That accounts for 23 days each year, leaving only 68 days available. With one Hour for lunch period each day you use up another 46 days, leaving only 22 days available to work. You normally spend 2 days a year for sick leave. This leaves you only 20 days available for work. We are off for 5 holidays per year, so your available working time is down to 15 days. We generously give you 2 weeks off for vacation per year. This only leaves 1 day available for work.
And I’ll be darned if you’re going to take that day off!!
Scorching Sedins
One last hockey post. I’m nothing more than a casual fan for any specific NHL team; not a real hater of any either.
But this sign from Boston’s Stanley Cup parade made me laugh nonetheless.

Boston Bruins
After last night’s Stanley Cup victory, it seems only fitting to post this video.
Before we roll it, I should say that I work alongside a die-hard Montreal Canadiens fan and ideas like this certainly have a way of hiding in the back corners of my mind for rainy days down the road…
Enjoying God
Counting one’s blessings is one way to rediscover satisfaction and contentment with “what is”. Jonathan Edwards would argue that the exercise should also awaken us to a dramatic “story behind the story”:
“To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here. Fathers and mothers, husbands, wives or children or the company of earthly friends are but shadows; but the enjoyment of God is the substance. These are but the scattered beams; but God is the sun. These are but streams; but God is the fountain. These are but drops; but God is the ocean.”
So go and enjoy the gifts of grace today. But along the way, miss not the opportunity to engage with the Giver. The rest is almost illusion in comparison to the reality of the One beyond all things.
