“A New Law”

My man, Derek Webb, has released his new album “Mockingbird”. It can be heard for free on his website.

The second song… whew! Can you say “tongue in cheek”?!?! Lyrics are posted below.

(vs. 1)
don’t teach me about politics and government
just tell me who to vote for

don’t teach me about truth and beauty
just label my music

don’t teach me how to live like a free man
just give me a new law

(pre-chorus)
i don’t wanna know if the answers aren’t easy
so just bring it down from the mountain to me

(chorus)
i want a new law
i want a new law
gimme that new law

(vs. 2)
don’t teach me about moderation and liberty
i prefer a shot of grape juice

don’t teach me about loving my enemies

don’t teach me how to listen to the Spirit
just give me a new law

(pre-chorus/chorus)

(bridge)
what’s the use in trading a law you can never keep
for one you can that cannot get you anything
do not be afraid
do not be afraid
do not be afraid

  1. and another thing.

why aren’t your sermons up on the internet, man. they need to be. i go to 4 churches a week without ever hearing such a message, and i rarely have the energy to read.

i need somebody to whip me into shape.

  2. 20 bucks? That’s like 8 ice caps! Tell you what… I was already tracking down a video that’s been done adding images to that song. What’s that get? 40?

As for whipping you into shape, you’re gonna need a whole lot more than anything I’m wielding these days, my friend.

  3. you guys is crazy…

seriously sweet song. i agree dave, i am going to start getting whoever is recording the service to make a copy for me every week…well, at least every week it is good that is. cause ja, you can’t be on all the time. jk. lol. (insert stupid time saving letter word here). seriously though jason, i had shivers hearing you talk about being shaped into priests. that was beautiful. so yeah, you should put those up on the website. and the riders pounding the bluebombers just put the icing on the cake!
