Freedom of Speech

In a searching of thoughts on the theme of freedom, I came across this one. It won’t make Sunday’s sermon, but it’s definitely bloggable.

From Kierkegaard…

People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use.

Surely you’ve never met such a person, but if you HAVE, I invite you to list his/her name in my comments section. That should liven things up!

For any readers untuned to sarcasm and tongue-in-cheek statements, yeah… don’t write a name.

Off

Yep, today’s my day off…

No office.

No books.

No laptop.

No email.

No phone.

If you’re gonna do it, better do it right.

I started with the morning… no alarm clock.

Shannon’s off too, so this is “tinker around the house” day, “get in a doctor appointment” day, “go to dance lesson” day, “watch the 24 we recorded on Monday” day, “spend some of the latest paycheck on things we need” day,… you know the kind.

And today’s blogging is done.

Have a great day!

Whoa!

Sixteen days since my last post… what the heck?  The last couple weeks have just been a-runnin’.  A few of the  highlights…

The chance to host our friend Jesse in the Queen city.  Jesse’s an American who taught in the same Chinese city with us, and his work just happened to bring him up to Regina two weeks ago–it was a treat.

Last weekend saw us in Calgary for a visit to the McMillan home… and Ikea.  Time with our only nephew and nieces is always fun–thanks to Steve & Beck for hosting us.

We hosted the  Tucker family this weekend for the first time in quite a while–very nice to have the time together.  It again made us grateful for the home we have; it’s nice to have a place to welcome people into.

Tomorrow sees Shannon head out of town for an overnight trip; it will likely see me head to my “second office” in the back of the public library.

More blogging this week…

Often Worse

A preacher I know was recently visiting with one of the “regulars” from his church.

Mr. Regular had a relative visiting that week, who attended service that Sunday.

Mr. Regular told the preacher: “I asked Relative what he thought of service on Sunday. He just asked me a question…”

Well, does the sermon always mess with your mind and thoughts that much?

“I told him…”

No.  It’s often worse than that.

On that day, a preacher smiled.

And dare I assume… the Word may have been preached.

The Hardest Word to Spell

I just composed an email containing a word that means “without musical accompaniment”. You know the word…

accapella

Must be two P’s.

acappella

I guess it’s not two L’s.

accappela

What the…? Maybe no doubles at all.

acapela

That does’s even look right.  All doubles?

accappella

Argh.

Oh yeah, there’s sometimes a space in there.  Trying again…

a cappela

Shoot.

a capela

Not even close.

a capella

What is going on?!

At this point, I concluded that my spell-checker also doesn’t know how to spell this word.

For future reference…

It’s a cappella (according to my online dictionary site). And that space… it’s optional.

Oh well, at least I finally figured how to spell ryhthm. I always hated that word too.

I mean rhythm.
